Facebook, Twitter, Google+ And LinkedIn: The Language Of Social Media [INFOGRAPHIC]

The Guinness Book Of World Records once listed a man who spoke 58 languages as the world’s greatest living polyglot – but that record has since been smashed by the likes of Facebook, Google+ and other social networks.

This infographic comes to us from Language Connect, and explores the many languages supported by four of the world’s most popular social networks. And even though they’re not exactly individuals, they do “speak” more languages than nearly any living person today.

Take Twitter for instance. It supports 28 different languages, the most recent additions being right-to-left languages like Arabic, Farsi, Hebrew and Urdu.

With over 200,000,000 users, you’d expect such a large number of languages from a network like Twitter. Plus, only two (the US and the UK) of the top five countries in terms of users speak English, with Brazil, Japan and Indonesia providing over 80,000,000 – or 40 percent – of its total users.

But the gold medal for the most languages supported by a single social network goes to Facebook. It’s no surprise that the giant social network, which is poised to hit a billion users sometime in the next few months, supports 70 different languages.

You can take a look at the infographic below for some more language and country information from the top four social networks (click to enlarge):
