Vote for Your Twitter Idols at the Shorty Awards

Twitter is in the spotlight this January, as the Shorty Awards kicks off its nomination period. Everyone is invited to nominate the individuals they think are the best producers of “short, real-time” content on Twitter, with the winners being presented with an award at the ceremonies in March.

In its third year, the Shorty Awards ceremony applauds those individuals and organizations that make the most of Twitter. Whether they tweet the latest, breaking news before anyone else, or provide scrumptious bite-sized restaurant reviews, the Shorty Award wants to recognize the best of the best on Twitter.

This week, voting kicked off on Twitter to nominate users for the Awards. Anyone can participate by sending a tweet using one of the following formats:

“I nominate @TwitterUser for a Shorty Award in #category because… (add reason here)”

or

“#shortyawards @username #category (add quick reason here)”

You may vote for as many different people in as many different categories as you like, but For the full list of rules, visit the Shorty Awards rules page.

Nominations close at the end of January, and in February the six users with the highest rank in each official category will become finalists. These finalists will be judged by the members of the Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Science, and winners will be presented with their awards at the ceremony in New York city in March.

There are 30 official categories, including actor and actress, charity, government, journalist and social media. As of today, there are also 74 community created categories, some of which may be made into official categories if enough people nominate Twitter users within them this January.

This event often shapes up to be a who’s who of Twitter, so it’s one to keep your eye on – and don’t forget to nominate your Twitter idols!
