Barnes & Noble To Launch Nook In The UK
Barnes & Noble is expanding its Nook business to the UK. The book retailer will begin sell its eReaders through the storefront www.nook.co.uk in mid-October.
The store will launch with the Nook E Ink Readers — the Nook Simple Touch and Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight. The store will also sell eBooks, apps and digital magazines and newspapers with a catalog of more than 2.5 million titles. The company will also sell its devices at leading retailers in the UK.
Amazon already has a foothold in the UK eReader market. TechCrunch has more: “The move comes as B&N’s arch rival Amazon gears up to launch the Kindle Fire in the UK — in a deal with leading book retailer Waterstonesthat includes other Kindle devices as well as e-books. Both the Kindle Fire and the Nook are built on forked versions of Google’s Android OS.”
Barnes & Noble did not announce if and when they would begin selling Nook tablets, but the company did indicate in a press release that more product announcements are coming.
Barnes & Noble’s CEO William J. Lynch stated, “We are proud to be able to offer our top-rated line of Nook reading devices and our award-winning digital bookstore to the discerning and highly educated consumers in the UK. We’re confident our award-winning technology, combined with our expansive content – including books, children’s books, magazines, apps, movies and more – will bring UK customers the option they’ve been waiting for.”
