Google has just announced that they’re getting into office apps (again).  QuickOffice, a decade old developer of office apps, now belongs to Google. The sale price hasn’t been disclosed yet, but it looks to me like Google was interested in the apps QuickOffice has developed for iOS and Android.

Sure, Google Docs works on multiple platforms, but it doesn’t work offline. Google had planned to release an offline version by March 2011, but they still haven’t done so. It looks like Google might have thrown in the towel on their own efforts and decided to acquire outside help. QuickOffice’s apps are said to be the only serious business editing tool for Android and the only serious competitor to Apple’s iWork on iOS, so clearly Google got the best help they could find.
