Twitter’s Vine Video App Recommends A Porn Video

Vine, Twitter’s new looped video sharing app that lets you edit six second videos as you shoot, is coming under scrutiny after a pornographic video called ‘Dildo Play’ was run as an Editor’s Pick this weekend.

According to a report on TheVerge.com, “the video is hidden behind a NSFW filter and doesn’t play automatically, but nonetheless it seems some users aren’t exactly happy with having porn automatically inserted into their feed.” For those who haven’t used the app yet, Editor’s Picks are a great way to discover cool videos and find people to follow, not a place you’d expect to check out NSFW videos.

The video has since been removed, but it raises the question of whether or not Vine has proper filters in place to manage what kind of content is being shared on its network. Over the weekend, Gawker called the app “America’s hottest new porn search engine.” Apple is known for being quite strict in the kinds of content it deems suitable. Just last week Apple made threats to pull 500px, a photography sharing app, after nude photos showed up on its network.
