ABC News Prez Ben Sherwood sent the following email to the news division regarding ABC’s seven Emmy wins. CBS also got seven awards; NBC earned three and CNN reeled in two. Just so happens the whole world gets to see Sherwood’s note. Imagine that! See who got shout-outs. And congrats to World News Tonight Producer Judy Isikow, the woman who should take the day off…
“Some great news to share – last night ABC News took home seven Emmy Awards for work that spanned the entire news division from GMA to Special Events to 20/20 to World News to Nightline. By way of comparison, over the last three years, we won a total of four.
Brian Ross and the entire investigative unit continued their sweep of major journalism awards for their stunning investigation of the Peace Corps as well as their groundbreaking work on Solyndra. It was an incredible moment to witness a gracious Bill Moyers, one of the founders of the Peace Corps, make the award presentation to ABC.
Mike and Carlos Boettcher’s extraordinary work earned two Emmys for their poignant and harrowing look into the lives and losses of our troops on the battlefields of Afghanistan.
ABC News won two Emmys for our coverage of Libya highlighted by Christiane’s unforgettable interview with Col. Gaddafi.
Our unmatched foreign desk and London bureau were tireless and worked these huge stories and many more in the past year and we all salute them.
As you know, the Emmys are voted on by your peers across the news business making them especially meaningful.
The entire news division contributed mightily to this success and I want to thank each of you for your hard work and excellence.
I also want to recognize and thank Judy Isikow (pictured above) who marshaled all of your excellent work into winning entries. It is an editorial and organizational feat and we know that Judy’s thoughtful and strategic approach were essential ingredients in our 17 nominations and seven wins.
