As of July 16, Shawna Thomas will join Meet the Press as senior editor responsible for leading its digital strategy. Thomas joins “Meet” having been with the network since 2006, serving as White House producer and Capitol Hill producer as well as a news associate, political assignment editor, and digital associate producer.

Also out of NBC News today, Erika Masonhall has been promoted to Vice President of Communications.

See Executive Producer Rob Yarin‘s internal note on Thomas’ announcement after the jump.

I’m pleased to announce that Shawna Thomas is joining the Meet the Press team as Senior Editor. In this newly-created role, she will spearhead Meet’s digital vision and voice as we continue to expand our presence beyond Sunday mornings and find new ways to engage on all platforms. She will develop and lead a data-driven strategy to define our digital identity and differentiate us from the competition, building on the great efforts already underway thanks to Joe Toohey, who will continue to be an integral part of our success on air and online.

Of course, we all know Shawna and the excellent work she has contributed since joining NBC News in 2006. In her three years as White House producer, she has been a key member of the team covering the Obama administration from Pennsylvania Avenue and around the world. Prior to the White House, she reported on the House of Representatives as NBC’s Capitol Hill producer. She held a number of other positions here in the Washington bureau before that, including NBC News Associate, Political Assignment Editor, and Digital Associate Producer.

Shawna’s savvy political expertise and passionate creativity will be invaluable assets as we all work together to build a cutting-edge digital future for the longest-running program on television.

We are proud of the long legacy of Meet the Press, and equally excited about the possibilities ahead as we evolve and establish an editorial brand that our audience can connect with whenever and wherever they want. Please join me in congratulating Shawna and welcoming her to the team.
