WaPo Here to Help During Wikipedia Blackout

Websites like Wikipedia and Reddit have blocked access to their content for all of Wednesday in protest of two internet-regulation bills being considered by Congress. But if you still need answers and don’t know where to go, WaPo promises it can help.

The publication is teaming up with the Guardian, NPR and “several other organizations” for a temporary “crowdsourcing” project, according to WaPo. If you’re looking for something, simply tweet a question on Twitter with the hashtag #altwiki.

“[W]e’ll ask our readers to help provide an answer. We’ll answer a few ourselves,” WaPo says.

There’s not a whole lot of serious use of the #altwiki hashtag on Twitter just yet. Here are two of the first questions tweeted:

  1. “What year will people openly admit that Kobe Bryant is a better basketball player than Michael Jordan? #altwiki”
  2. “OK NPR/WaPo, help me out: When the call letters for WBEZ were assigned, did they know people would shout ‘BE EASY!’ all the time? #altwiki”

You could, of course, just use Google search. That’s still working. Also, there’s actually a loophole to access Wikipedia’s content and it’s pretty simple. Read it here.
