PostPartisan’s Jonathan Capehart was all set to go on the air at MSNBC, where he’s a contributor, when he learned about the surprise announcement. So he couldn’t dial into the 4:30 p.m. call. “I read the email from Katharine Weymouth around 4:45 under the NBC marquee on 49th Street and screamed, ‘WHAT?!’”
Food critic Tim Carmen was on vacation, but told Hollywood on the Potomac he’s good with the news. “…I can think of few owners I’d rather have than Jeff Bezos. He knows about Internet commerce, and he knows enough to say he doesn’t know much about news-gathering.” Bonus in Carmen’s mind is that Bezos is keeping the current editors. “These are all positive signs to me,” he said.
