One-Time WNBC Reporter John Miller Headed for CBS’ Early Show

Accomplished reporter John Miller is known for his persistent nature at tracking down a story. In the 1970s, Howard Cosell and Muhammed Ali seemed attached at the hip.

Throughout the 1990s, Miller, while reporting for WNBC/Channel 4, would regularly chase after former Gambino family head John Gotti.

The New York Times reports that Miller is joining CBS’ Early Show, as the show continues to reinvent invent itself in a more serious vein. Miller will report and comment on homeland security, law enforcement and other matters.

Miller worked for Channel 4 from 1985 to 1994 as an investigative reporter. Earlier in his career, Miller was a journalist for WNEW (now WNYW)/Channel 5.

After WNBC, Miller left TV to serve as spokesman for New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton.

Miller returned to on-air work at ABC News in 1995, where he stayed until 2002. He famously was Peter Jennings’ “right hand man” during coverage of the 9/11 attacks, monitoring police scanners for updated information (see video below).

Miller is the winner of nine Emmys and two Peabody Awards.
