Allman Brothers Band Sues Label Over iTunes, Ringtones
Not everyone is happy with the digital music revolution. The Allman Brothers Band has sued a record company to demand a bigger cut of recordings sold through third parties such as Apple's iTunes Store, according to the Associated Press. The report said that the band filed its lawsuit against UMG Recordings in federal court in Manhattan on Monday, claiming it was a victim of "digital exploitation." They want $13 million, plus additional royalties to cover new CD albums and tracks that are set up for ringtone downloads. The iTunes Store is currently the number one music retailer in the U.S., not just online but in any kind of music sales, so there's a lot at stake here.
