Anderson Cooper Becomes Loud Voice for Gulf Residents (NYT)
"There aren't any small people here," CNN anchor Anderson Cooper said from Louisiana on his prime-time program Wednesday night, emphatically rejecting the remarks by BP's chairman that the oil company cares "about the small people." Some commentators dismissed Cooper's unusual show-opener as shtick. But he has become one of the loudest media voices on behalf of gulf residents, reprising a role he played in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
A Tweet Too Far? Utah Firing Squad Execution Announced On Twitter (Mashable)
Earlier today, convicted killer Ronnie Lee Gardner was executed by a Utah firing squad, the first execution of its kind in the United States in 14 years. Shortly before that, Attorney General Mark Shurtleff announced it with a couple of tweets. One of them read "I just gave the go ahead to Corrections Director to proceed with Gardner's execution. May God grant him the mercy he denied his victims."

The facepuncher? The ruling United Russia Party's deputy head of the Central Committee.
