Why Eisner Fits At Tribune (DailyBeast)
While it may seem odd to install Eisner as chairman of the Tribune Co. once it emerges from bankruptcy given his lack of print-based media experience, there are at least four reasons why it makes perfect sense. First, keep in mind that for all the attention derived from newspapers, Tribune's money flows mostly from its stable of 23 television stations, and Eisner's expertise could certainly be used to improve that area of the business.
Politico Editor Jim VandeHei Sends Best Wishes To The New National Journal Team (BI)
"It's a great age for Washington journalism, and I wish the NJ gang luck with their launch," Jim VandeHei, Politico's executive editor, said in an email, responding to a question about whether Politico is worried about losing readers and scoops to National Journal's newly-assembled all-star team. New Kindle Leaves Rivals Farther Back (NYT)
The improved Kindle is almost ridiculously lightweight; at 8.5 ounces, it's a third the weight of the iPad. Then there is the $140 price. That's for the model with Wi-Fi -- a feature new to the Kindle that plays catch-up to the Barnes & Noble Nook. A Kindle model that can also get online using the cellular network, as earlier models do, costs $50 more. That $140 is quite a tumble from the Kindle's original $400 price, and a tiny sliver of what you would pay for an iPad ($500 and way, way up).
