Food Network star Guy Fieri was the subject of a scathing restaurant review in the New York Times this week. Fieri owns a number of restaurants in California, but only recently opened his first New York outpost, Guy’s American Kitchen & Bar. The Times critic said it was “not a real restaurant,” and panned almost every dish he ate. Even the ones he enjoyed he had negative things to say about.
This morning Fieri spoke out for the first time since the review, as part of an interview segment on NBC’s “Today.” Fieri flew overnight from California to do the interview, and Savannah Guthrie left the NBC studio to do the interview live from inside his Times Square restaurant.
“It really seemed like there was another agenda,” Fieri said. “Do we do it perfect? No, are we striving to be perfect? yes.”
