Matt Lauer Makes It Official, While Katie Couric and ‘Good Morning America’ Offer Congratulations
As expected, Matt Lauer announced his new deal with NBC to stay at “Today” in a very brief statement this morning:
“This is my family, I love this job and I love working with you guys and all the people behind the scenes,” Lauer said.
“It was either you or Keith Olbermann,” quipped Al Roker, before doing an impression of the former MSNBC and Current TV host.
On ABC’s “Good Morning America,” the program ended with Lauer’s former partner-in-crime Katie Couric and George Stephanopoulos congratulating the NBC anchor on his new deal.
“Matt, you set the bar so high every day, you make us better because you are so good at what you do,” Stephanopoulos said, with Couric noting that they sent over a gift. “A bucket of balls,” golf balls that is.
