Job Description
Who We Are:

The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking an Art Teacher at Lagonda Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre‑K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state‑of‑the‑art buildings in west‑central Ohio. The district values the racial, ethnic and socioeconomic diversity of our student body, faculty and staff. Our academic and extracurricular aim is to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students with a wealth of opportunity, including a 1:1 initiative and the YouMedia Center, a digital learning lab offering students activities such as 3‑D printing, graphic design, and videography.

As a Teacher you are required to:

K-12 Art licensure issued by the Ohio Department of Education

Be flexible in your work schedule and be willing to attend/participate in professional development sessions

Be willing to serve on teams

Have the ability to relate to and teach students with diverse backgrounds

Demonstrate enthusiasm in your role

As a Teacher you will:

Effectively differentiate instruction to establish and maintain a student‑centered classroom

Accurately analyze data to plan instruction aligned to the Fine Arts Model Curriculum

Design engaging lessons and assessments that meet the needs of all students

Apply research‑based pedagogy and maintain excellent background knowledge of Art

Collaborate with multiple teams to ensure student success

Establish and maintain a classroom community built on rituals and routines that promote structure and success for all students

Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction

Use multiple approaches to instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students

Engage in active, hands‑on creative and innovative approaches to help students improve their skills

Identify and build on student strengths

Support all district‑enacted programming in academic, behavioral and emotional support

Facilitate ongoing assessments to determine starting points for instruction, monitor instructional needs and evaluate student progress

Evaluate, grade, and assess student work

Maintain class records and report grades and progress

Provide instruction to students with varying capabilities and needs with attention to SEL support

Assist students in the development of responsible behaviors and positive work ethic

Implement an effective program of instruction reflective of the Ohio Department of Education

Interact with paraprofessionals, nurses, mental health specialists, and counselors to provide a safe student‑centered environment

Communicate with parents and caregivers to address student/classroom issues

Maintain a professional demeanor, exemplifying responsible leadership as a model for students

Manage all situations in a positive and professional manner

Perform other duties as assigned

What We Offer:

As a contracted employee, Teacher work: 183 days per year and 7.25 hours per day.

Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement, increases with experience and education.

Contracted employees receive competitive benefits.

All employees receive professional development.

In the 2025‑26 school year, the Springfield Education Association (SEA) and the Board of Education are working on a new professional agreement. Current pay and benefits are as per the 2025‑26 agreement.
