How Frequently Should You Tweet? [STATS]

A lot has been said about social timing, from the optimal number of times to tweet per day, to the best time of day to tweet.

This study asks a new – and particularly effective – question to determine your best number of times to tweet per day: are your tweets getting retweets? And if not, should you tweet more or less?

TrackSocial took a look at the tweets from top brands to determine whether brands who tweeted more saw more retweets. And the findings are interesting.

When looking at the percentage of retweets these brands saw per tweet compared to when they tweeted only once per day, we begin to see a “sweet spot” for those brands tweeting between 4 to 5 times per day.

When they tweet 4 to 5 times per day, brands see over 300 percent more retweets per tweet than when they tweet just once.

But the percentage of retweets per tweet drops when brands tweet more than 5 times per day, which TrackSocial identifies as a possible diminishing return on the effort of tweeting 6 or more times per day. But that’s not the whole story.

Track Social also examined the total number of retweets per day, which represents the total interaction that a brand has with its customers on Twitter as opposed to the interaction per tweet.

As you can see below, retweets per tweet might diminish if brands tweet more than 5 times per day, but the total number of retweets the brand is seeing increases:

So in order for brands to answer the question “How frequently should we tweet?”, they must examine their resources and set a minimum number of times they’ll tweet per day – hopefully starting around 5 and adjusting as they measure the effects.

How often do you tweet per day? Will you try changing it based on these stats? Let us know in the comments below.
