Circulation: 700,000 Background: Jane was launched in 1997 by Jane Pratt, who had edited the cultishly popular teen book Sassy until 1994. Jane is geared toward women who are what editor Karen Catchpole calls "intelligent, self-determining 18-to-34-year-olds," and in it, she says, you'll never find a "condescending" article like "How to trap a man" or "Tighten your tummy in 15 days!" The magazine covers fashion and beauty as well as entertainment and women's news, Catchpole says, "without taking itself—... ![]() The How to Pitch series is worth its weight in gold.
