The long-awaited (and much feared) Village Voice-New Times merger has happened at last. It's not much of a merger -- the New Times will control most of the stock, the board of directors, and intends to eventually buy out the Voice's backers -- but the bigger question, of course, is whether layoffs are one way at some of the combined company's 17 papers in order to financially justify the deal. New Times CEO James Larkin and executive editor Michael Lacey will retain their titles, while Village Voice Media CEO (and former editor) David Schneiderman will spearhead the company'...
