Doomsday at Time Inc.: The final tally, reported everywhere and confirmed by Time Inc.: 289 staffers across the company; 172 of those from editorial (86 of those took packages voluntarily, and 86 were forced to go), while business-side casualties number 117. At the individual magazines, Time closed bureaus in Chicago, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, while People closed bureaus in Chicago, Miami, Washington D.C., and Austin, Texas. Memos were dispatched by Time Inc. CEO Ann Moore, editor-in-chief John Huey, People news editor Rob Howe, and Sports Illustrated managing editor Terry McDonell, all expressing varying reasons behind the layoffs and degrees of regret....
