Background: Spirit was first published in March 1985 as the exclusive in-flight magazine of Southwest Airlines and replacing Southwest Airlines magazine, the in-flight publication launched when the airline first took flight in 1971. Since January 2007, Spirit has been published for Southwest by Pace Communications.
