Curry's Future in Question; NYT Looks Across The Pond
June 22, 2012
may be on the outs
just a year after taking over the co-hosting duties. The morning show slipped behind Good Morning America
in the spring. Although no one is sure if Curry is to blame and the show has since regained the No. 1 spot, someone has to take the fall. (In a forthcoming interview with Ladies' Home Journal
, Curry seemed to predict
the future.) Savannah Guthrie
is the favorite
to take over as Matt Lauer
's partner, but any negotiations are far from complete. Meredith Vieira
already turned down
an offer. There's no word on where Curry will land, although a return
to her hard-news roots would seem to make the most sense. She will certainly be able to find another gig with the Peacock, likely a sweet one, especially since the lawyers
are getting involved...
Former New York Times Magazine
"Ethicist" Ariel Kaminer
higher education in the New York region. She oversaw the recent cover story about Horace Mann
. Elsewhere in the Times
world, Andy Wright
and Todd Haskell
to group vice president, advertising. The former is a 15-year veteran of the company, while the later joined in 2004. And finally, Mark Thompson
could be headed
to the NYT
as CEO. (Talk about burying the lede.) He is the outgoing director general at the BBC... The Los Angeles Times shifts
business editor John Corrigan
to the arts and entertainment beat and gives him an assistant managing editor title. Additionally, Laurie Ochoa
comes back to the LAT
as arts and entertainment editor while television critic Mary McNamara

Good Morning America taps Ben Mulroney, son of former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, as a contributor. He will continue as host of etalk on CTV... Darren Rovell and his hyperactive Twitter feed are back at ESPN. He'll make somewhere north of $500,000 to report on business for the Worldwide Leader with some ABC work throw in, as well... RollingStone.com lays off at least five staffers including managing editor Evie Nagy and associate editor Matthew Perpetua. The plan, it seems, is to combine the print and Web staffs... Quartz, the business brand from the smarties at Atlantic Media, hire Michael Cascio as vice president of global revenue. He spent three years as director of sales working under current Quartz publisher Chris Batty... And there are changes at The Hollywood Reporter, Oxygen Media and more...
