News Corp. names James Murdoch deputy COO, chairman, and CEO, international. Rupert Murdoch's succession planning is intact, although no one really knows what the move means. The New York Observer thinks the nice house Jesse Angelo purchased is actually for James, while Adweek asks a bunch of questions without coming to any conclusion. Of course, if we understood the mind of Rupe, we'd be much richer, so it's no surprise he's a step ahead...

V Magazine signs up Lady Gaga as a columnist. Fans can submit artwork to run with the first piece, scheduled for the summer issue... Gwyneth Paltrow's next project could be a cooking magazine. The rumor comes on the heels of the impending release of her cookbook, My Father's Daughter...

Hearst promotes Steven Swartz to chief operating officer. Mark Aldam replaces him as president of the newspaper division... Gannett will furlough some top executives and other highly paid staffers as it looks to save money. The news comes a week after the company announced it doubled the salary of chairman and CEO Craig Dubow to $9.4 million... Ashley Dunn steps in as California editor at the Los Angeles Times... Virginia Heffernan, chopped from The New York Times Magazine by Hugo Lindgren, finds a home on the opinion pages of the NYT...

The Katie Couric saga continues, with CBS as the front-runner to keep the anchor in-house. Leslie Moonves wants her to stay, and he usually gets what he wants... James Goldston makes the first major changes to Good Morning America since he came on as senior executive producer in February. Juju Chang leaves the program for Nightline with SportsCenter anchor Josh Elliott taking over as GMA's newsreader... Amy Entelis leaves ABC News to join Sucherman Consulting Group... Jessica Rodriguez steps in as senior vice president of Univision Cable Networks... Fox News Channel promotes Jay Wallace to vice president of news and senior executive producer of news and politics... Bill Moyers could be returning to PBS on a show tentatively titled Something Different With Bill Moyers...

Spotify finally comes to America, but at the expense of its European operations. Users across the pond are (rightly) p.o.'d, but one of the investors told TechCrunch, "the simple fact remains that America is the only place that matters when it comes to start-up success." Just kidding. We almost fell for this one, too... Richard Blakeley leaves Gawker Media for Thrillist where he'll be editor of strategy and content... And there are changes at ID Media, Complex Media Network and more...
