Arianna Huffington will not stop hiring. The latest scores include former CBSNews.com executive editor Neil Katz and Lori Leibovich, who join as executive news editor and women's editor, respectively. The moves come after a series of expected layoffs plagued the first stages of the merger. Additionally, the company shifts Saul Hansell from Seed to the Huffington Post, where he'll serve as editor of "Big News." Apparently, it's pretty much the same gig as before, albeit with a new, flashier title. And don't say Arianna is resting on her laurels as the HuffPo head launches a B2B division called AOL Industry. The new division consists of energy, defense and government verticals...
Harper's Bazaar shakes up its advertising side, installing former Elle savior Carol Smith as publisher. Current HB publisher Valerie Salembier gets shuttled sideways (read: demoted) to Town & Country while T&C publisher Jim Taylor is leaving the company. Bazaar's ad pages are down 11.3 percent in the first quarter...
The New York Observer continues its hiring streak as Elizabeth Spiers recruits Brian Gallagher, Nitasha Tiku and Michael Miller. Gallagher comes on as deputy editor while the latter two journalists join as staff writers. Reid Pillifant scores a promotion to features editor with online managing editor Aaron Gell getting bumped up to executive editor... Roll Call snags Alex Muller from The Hill where he had been a copy editor, graphic designer and Web producer... TBD continues to sink. The latest move is community engagement director Steve Buttry.
