The New York Daily News is undergoing some changes (read: chaos). Photo editor Gretchen Viehmann resigned, following senior managing editor Stuart Marques out the door. The trio of managing editors -- Adam Berkowitz, Robert Sapio and Scott Cohen -- don't know their job descriptions. And a flurry of layoffs hit the paper, with staffers getting called into a conference room all morning. The layoffs are yet complete, but those confirmed are veteran Bob Kappstatter, Frank Lombardi, Scott Shifrel, Kate Lucadamo and John Roca. Arthur Browne becomes deputy editor, with rumors flying that editor-in-chief Kevin Convey has a short time left. All in all, it's an ugly situation... The Los Angeles Times is cutting another 10-20 people at the end of January. Design, news operations and Web operations will be combined in an effort to save money...
Amy Nelson leaves ESPN for SB Nation. Remember her name. You're going to be hearing it a lot in the very near future... TechCrunch hires Josh Constine and Eric Eldon to bolster its coverage of Silicon Valley. The pair come from Inside Facebook (owned by mediabistro.com's parent company, WebMediaBrands) where they were lead writer and editor, respectively... Mediagazer's new team includes Lyra McKee, Patricia Sauthoff and David Connell... And there are changes as Allure, Fortune and more...
