YouTube Launches 'Reporters Center' to Educate Citizen JournalistsMore and more people are turning to social media when news breaks, but traditional journalists often complain there's a problem with that: everyday people just don't know how to report the news like professionals do. YouTube now has a solution: The Reporters Center. Tag-lined "Helping You Report the News," the center contains videos from pro's, explaining how journalists do their jobs. "Today, anyone can chronicle what they see and participate in the news-gathering process," writes Olivia Ma, YouTube's head of News and Politics, on The Official Google Blog. "We believe the power of this new media landscape lies in the collaborative possibilities of amateurs and professionals working together." The Center is chock full of good stuff: Nicholas Kirstof explaining how to cover a global crisis; Scott Simon on how to tell a story; Katie Couric on how to conduct a good interview (below). So good, in fact, that we veterans at BayNewser just might have to take the afternoon off and spend some quality time with some of those videos. Email This Post |
