Media Parties Provide Shelter From Storm

Welcome to The Press List, our weekly newsletter alerting you to upcoming media events worth knowing about. April is off to an unsurprisingly rainy start, but with all the media and digital events happening this week, there's no reason to let that rain on your party parade.
Tuesday is shaping up to be the busiest day of the week, with a full slate of day and night events: If you've got an extra $1,000 to spend (and who doesn't these days?) check out Ad Age's Digital Advertising conference. The two-day event focused on technology, social media and the new face of online advertising will bring together digital marketing industry moguls including New York Times Media Group's Denise Warren, Unilever's Simon Clift, Verizon Communication's John Stratton and Yahoo! Inc.'s David Katz for panels, Q&A, networking and a digital advertising awards ceremony.
Then, start Tuesday evening at the "Creating a Media Company for the 21st Century" panel, where Wallstrip.com co-founders and CBS Interactive executive producers Adam Elend and Jeff Marks will offer strategies for navigating the changing technology and the economic conditions. Afterward, get social networking insights at 92Y Tribeca, with Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg in conversation with BusinessWeek editor-in-chief Steven J. Adler. Finally, end the night at GelfMagazine.com's Media Circus (not to be confused with Mediabistro Circus) for the meta-est talk we've gotten wind of in a while: Jeff Bercovici of Portfolio.com, Gawker's Hamilton Nolan, and author and media writer Seth Mnookin discussing how the press covers and consumes itself. Echo chamber, anyone?
Last week, New York's female techies were in the spotlight at the relaunch party of the NY Girls In Tech chapter, aimed at empowering women working in the male-dominated technology field. Despite the name, the coed group's guest list included Mashable's Brett Petersel, 33 Million People in the Room author Juliette Powell, and The New York Observer's Gillian Reagan. In addition, the largely agency-centric PSFK conference covered trends in innovation, and started with a speakers' cocktail mixer Wednesday night where panelists Sean Khozin of Hello Health, TreeHugger's Graham Hill, and Parsons' Simon Collins mingled over wine and cheese.
We'll be back next Monday to forecast which upcoming media events you'll want to know about, and report all that went down at the prior week's hottest happenings. Be sure to check out 'Conferences, Etc.' and 'Beyond New York' for media events beyond the five boroughs in Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C...
