Pulitzers Put The Party Back Into Newsrooms

Welcome to The Press List, our weekly newsletter alerting you to upcoming media events worth knowing about. They're doling out Pulitzer Prizes at Columbia University today: Once winners' names are revealed, it's safe to expect some celebrating in the various newsrooms that victorious scribes call home. After all, it's a Pulitzer tradition to toast prize winners, and with seemingly endless media industry job cuts, newsrooms have been low on other excuses to party this year.
If you're not part of any impromptu Pulitzer throwdowns, there are still plenty of media events, conferences, and meet-and-greet opportunities to keep you busy this week. Today, Gotham Media Ventures hosts "Media 3.0: What's Next?," a panel on technology and the media industry featuring Craigslist.com founder Craig Newmark and Vanity Fair columnist Michael Wolff. Wednesday night, the Department of Media Studies and Film at the New School teams up with the Center for Communication to sponsor a round table on the economic crisis -- the aptly titled "Buyouts, Bailouts and Burnouts." CNBC editor Charles Gasparino, Wall Street Journal deputy managing editor Alan Murray, Fox Business News anchor Liz Claman, and Portfolio.com media blogger Jeff Bercovici will all be on hand to offer their two cents about the economy.
Those who've managed to endure the recession with enough extra cash for a black-tie charity gala ticket should spring to attend the ASPCA's 12th Annual Bergh Ball. There promises to be some high-quality media industry eye candy, with domestic diva Martha Stewart, Today Show host Matt Lauer, and WNBC anchor Chuck Scarborough all slated to attend. On the conference front, mediabistro.com officially launches its upcoming Web 3.0 event with a cocktail gathering this Tuesday, where inquisitive new-media types can talk shop ahead of the multi-day event in May.
We'll be back next Monday to forecast which upcoming media events you'll want to know about, along with all that went down at the prior week's hottest happenings. Be sure to check out 'Conferences, Etc.' and 'Beyond New York' for media events beyond the five boroughs in Chicago, the Bay Area, and Washington, D.C...
