Welcome to The Press List, our weekly newsletter alerting you to upcoming media events worth knowing about. This week is going to be all about social networking, with a wide variety of events taking place over the next five days as part of New York Social Media Week. Highlights of the weeklong series of events include Wednesday night's "Shorty Awards," recognizing top Twitter users, and a Thursday night "Twestival" meetup for Twitterers that will benefit Charity:Water.
Also on tap for this week is the O'Reilly Tools of Change for Publishing conference, focusing on the future of the publishing industry. Various media luminaries, including Jeff Jarvis and mediabistro.com's own Laurel Touby are slated to speak. In addition, mediabistro.com hosts a party to kick off the conference Monday night.
New York isn't getting all of the action this week: Over on the West Coast, mediabistro.com's User Generated Content Conference & Expo will include events with venture capitalist Guy Kawasaki and Craigslist founder Craig Newmark.
