Details Obstetric negligence continues to account for the highest proportion of medical negligence claims. It is also an area in which technology and procedures are continually evolving, making it important that both legal and medical practitioners remain up-to-date on emerging issues. We present a unique forum for discussion between the legal, medical indemnity, obstetric and midwifery communities – to benchmark their practice, and explore new ideas with the thought leaders in the field.

This year’s program has been designed with the aid of industry experts to provide pertinent and topical updates on what has occurred in the obstetric law space in the past year including:
• Interaction between the National Disability Insurance Scheme & the National Injury Insurance Scheme
• Implementation of future collaborative arrangements and Professional Indemnity Insurance
• The New Zealand midwifery indemnity model in action
• The Coroner’s perspective on recent home birth cases in Victoria and South Australia
• Implications of the Open Disclosure Standard The IIR Obstetric Malpractice Conference will equip you with the legal knowledge and techniques to defend a claim of obstetric negligence and to better use expert testimony in a court or coronial setting. We will also consider:
• controversial areas of practice
• reduction of obstetric risk
