Ben Goldhirsh for Hollywood Student Council Prexy. It's true at last--Hollywood is high school with more money, better drugs. In the longest yearbook entry ever, was this gem about idealistic young Ben Goldhirsh : So they took one of Ben's political science papers from college and recast it as a documentary about the global condition And even though Michael Apted is directing, I couldn't help but be reminded of that other time when BMOCs Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were going to treat us to 12 hours of Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States on Fox--back in the dim, dark past of 2000. But Ben's not just a shallow prep--he's lived, as this interview about his research project for an upcoming film shows: So we spent a month in East LA with the writer and director. And that was a wild education for me too. I don't know if you've ever been over there but it's a different world. The people there have never been to the beach. They've never been to Beverly Hills. The lack of a transportation system just keeps these communities so isolated.. Yes, Salvadoran gang members would benefit from a local Metro line, not that there's ever going to be one in BH. Maybe Ben could buy them a van--for field trips to the beach and Barneys.
