See John Malkovich in "Seduction and Despair" for Free!

We got a couple more tickets to the show. All you have to do is be the first to send us an email with "Seduction and Despair" as the subject and tell us what day you would like to attend.
JohnMalkovich-1.jpg
The show is Saturday, May 3, 2008, 8pm and Sunday and May 4, 2008, 8pm Barnum Hall, Santa Monica.

The show is described as:

Actor John Malkovich and Musica Angelica Baroque Orchestra present "Seduction and Despair," an original multi-media concert presentation directed by and starring the celebrated Academy Award-nominee.

This modern-day melodrama with Baroque music is an extraordinary collaboration between the ultra-contemporary actor and Musica Angelica, whose work is rooted in the 17th century.

Music by Baroque composers - among them Boccherini, Vivaldi, Handel, Haydn and Mozart -- serves as the emotional background of the true story based on the life of Jack Unterweger, whose grisly killing streak in the early 1990s took place partly in Los Angeles. Unterweger, a convicted Austrian murderer and acclaimed imprisoned poet, author and journalist, was pardoned and released from jail at the urging of Austria's literary elite, only to kill again.

Good luck!

We have a couple of pairs of tickets. Here's the deal - we just got these new comments. And well, you guys never use them, so it makes us look bad to the New York people and we just hate as Angelenos for them to get yet another reason to be smug. Blah blah - bigger hit count - better spellers on staff - offices with plumbing - whatever.

So here's how we're going to do this one. You leave a comment, you'll have to register (we know lame). Then email us with your screen name and you'll win tickets. Make sure to tell us the date that you would like to go. First five people win tickets!

Look, our blogger conference is in less than a month - so we're clearly getting desperate to one up them...at least once.

SoCal and the Pulitzer: We Stand Corrected So Much, We're Actually Going to Sit Down Now, Thank You

pulitzaaaer.jpgSo, remember when we said that Mark Katches was the closest thing to a Pulitzer SoCal got? And then it turned out that a former local freelancer won in Bangkok? And then Veronique de Turenne reminded us that, actually, the LAT garnered two finalists slots?

Well, now, Kevin Roderick at L.A. Observed asks why in Gaia's name haven't we mentioned the other former L.A. folks who actually, you know, won them suckers this year?

Good question, K-Rod. Our apologies to former LAT cartoonist Michael Ramirez and Amy Harmon. And congratulations!

Now we'll go back to sitting alone in our rooms, making shit up.

Your Job Sucks--The Contest

55DSL_Wall-1.jpg

Oh wait - you have a job?! Then you already are a lucky bastard...

Employment Opportunity.
Position: Junior Lucky Bastard.
Salary: A little bit better than peanuts.

We will spend the bulk of our lives at work. We will spend more time with our coworkers than with our family. If we're not careful we will eventually become our job.

But wouldn't it be nice if we could just get paid for living. No spreadsheets, no expense reports, no more eating at out desks, no more working so late at the office that daylight becomes a distant memory. If living life were a job, we would welcome suggestions on how to do it better with open arms. Meetings would be something to look forward to and working 24 hours straight would leave you feeling exhilarated, not exhausted.

Such a job exists. 55DSL is now searching for bright, young and gifted individuals to come work in our Kick Ass Department. This is not a joke, it's not a competition and it's certainly not a gimmick. 55DSL needs people to roam the earth and find all that is good and pure and kick ass. Their job will be to film, photograph, and blog, everything they find so the whole world can see just how amazing it all is.

At 55DSL, when we tell you to live a least 55 seconds per day, we mean it.

Apply online at www.55DSL.COM

Ironically, their site is NSFW.

FBLA's New MTV Show Naming Contest

journalism.jpg

According to the Associated Press, MTV followed around some student journalists and made a reality show about it.

"The Paper" will debut April 14th. MTV spent about five months filming at Cypress Bay High School in Weston and in students' homes.

The series follows the lives of 7 students who work on the high school's monthly newspaper.

As veterans of our own high school newspaper staff (we suspect some of our readers are as well). We think there could be a better name for the series.

Like:
Journalism Geek is 32 and Finally Attractive
Scoops of Love
Future 40-Year-Old Virgins

Send in your suggestions!

What will you win? Our admiration. Which is, if you ever read this blog - very rare.

Win Free Tickets To Erykah Badu and The Roots

800px-ErykahBadu.jpg

Premiere Marquee Club has given us a pair of tickets to Erykah Badu and The Roots at the Gibson on June 12. And since we're so cool, we're giving them to you.

Yes, you.

All you have to do is be the first person to e-mail us at fishbowlla@mediabistro.com with the words "Erykah Badu" in the subject line, and they're yours. (Don't worry if you're reading this late in the day. You'll be amazed by how many people can't follow simple instructions.)

And remember, Premiere Marquee Club -- which allows music fans to create their own "concert series" packages -- ends Tuesday, so check it out before it's too late.
