Naomi Wolf confesses her big mistake was taking Al Gore's dime, in a newish HuffPost feature.According to the as-told-to-Seema Kalia, Wolfe was muzzled by her role as an advisor and couldn't respond:

The whole "Alpha Male" flap, the whole "earth tone" (wardrobe) flap was completely invented out of whole cloth - the stuff of urban legends, but they were such good urban legends they quickly got picked up by the mainstream media because no one was fact-checking it, and my hands were tied.

Huh? She worked for Clinton, and didn't seem too bothered by the gig's requirements (and we're guessing that the interviewer didn't know this, thus no follow). Dick Morris is the guy who started the earth tones story, and it stuck. Wolf was hired to hang out in Nashville, and help a Gore daughter a project called GoreNet—a project aimed at younger voters, especially young female voters. She doesn't mention this, as it got almost no press.

Sounds like her time on his payroll paid off--when you think of Naomi Wolf, don't you think of earth-toned whiner longing for an Alpha Male?
