Marc Maron at the Hollywood Improv This Weekend

n29110414112_7954.jpg

Marc Maron, one of our favorites - definitely in our top five of working comedians, will be at the Hollywood Improv on Melrose.

Friday, June 20, 2008 at 8:00pm
Two shows on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 8pm and 10pm

Go here for tickets.

If you only go to one comedy show this year - and really that's pushing it because your favorite coffee shop was taken over by an open mike and you hate them all - go to this one. You'll thank us later.

FBLA talked to Maron (who now is convinced he has a new stalker) and told us, "My life has never been more difficult and I have never been more raw and funny."

Perfect to entertain us.

Lewis Black and Joel Stein Event at WGA

speaker_Black.jpgA night with Lewis Black and Joel Stein as part of the Writer's Bloc series for TOWN HALL LA.

Weird pairing, we think. An unbalanced bill. What's next? A night with Micheal Caine and Dustin Diamond?

The event is Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 7:30 PM at the WGA. Tickets are $20. For more information about the event go here.

Arianna Huffington to Appear at the Traveler's Bookcase Tonight

Back when we did a weekly listings post, we paid attention to author appearance information a little more closely. But this one seems pretty cool -- and it's from one of our favorite bookstores, so we decided to pimp it:

Arianna Huffington will appear at the Traveler's Bookcase tonight at 7:30 p.m.

She will read from, discuss and sign her latest book:
Right Is Wrong: How the Lunatic Fringe Hijacked America

Space is limited, so RSVP to travelersbookcase@gmail.com

Or, you could just watch her on Leno.

Win Tickets to Swag Bag for the Homeless Party

imageflauntMay.jpg

Political satirist and comedian, Bill Maher will be the special guest host at Flaunt magazine's Issues Issue release party featuring the launch of their inaugural 'Swag Bags for the Homeless' charity drive to benefit the Hollywood homeless population. The event is to be held poolside at the Roosevelt Hotel's Tropicana Bar on Thursday June 5th with music by a special guest DJ.

Flaunt invites all their guests to fill the provided bag, that doubles as the invitation, with clothes, hygiene and sanitary products, batteries, books and other useful items and bring it with them to the party. Flaunt will then be taking the items to various missions and shelters around Hollywood to distribute the goods.

Be the first to send us an email with 'Swag Bag' in the subject and a pair of tickets to the event are yours. Note that 98% of our readers are lurkers and will never email us for any reason. So you could be reading this Thursday and be the first to actually send us an email.

Prove us wrong, people. Prove us wrong.

FBLA at BEA

BEA2008.jpg

It's a tsunami of swag at the Book Expo America 2008. If you come down tomorrow bring your handy mule to haul all the books you should take but probably won't ever get around to reading.

West Coast Debut of In the Flesh Tomorrow

CarlyMilneBioPic2.jpgFrom their release:

Three years ago, acclaimed author and editor Rachel Kramer Bussel (Caught Looking, He's on Top, Naughty Spanking Stores from A to Z 1 and 2) launched an innovative monthly reading series in New York that encouraged the city's best writers to share intimate and humorous tales about sex. And now, In the Flesh is set to make its West Coast debut on May 29th!

In the Flesh: L.A. will be hosted and curated by acclaimed author and writer Carly Milne (Sexography, Hooking Up, Naked Ambition.) and held the last Thursday of every month at Freddy and Eddy, located at 12613 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90066.

The theme for May is Survival, as interpreted by readers Willam Belli (Nip/Tuck, Out), Rachel Kramer Bussel (Dirty Girls), Dana Harris (Variety.com, Naked Ambition), Maxim Jakubowski (Confessions of a Romantic Pornographer), Stan Kent (Sex and Shoes) and Shana Ting Lipton (L.A. Times, BlackBook.)

Complimentary cookies and cupcakes from Schmerty's will be served. The event is free, but a suggested $10 door fee will be donated to the Rape and Incest National Network.

FBLA asked the hostess Milne if she thinks the West Coast is ready for this series. "Why shouldn't it be? It's the epicenter of porn." Stated Milne.

Touche.

LA Mediabistro Mixer?

We went to a little cocktail party last night in Soho. It was fun. We got a chance to talk with other Mediabistro bloggers face to face.

We want to know if our readers would be interested in having a mixer in LA. Would you guys like to meet each other face to face?

Or we can have a party and all our readers can walk by, see whats going on and then quicker dart off. Ahem.
