It sounds like the kind of label that LA detractors love to mock – “conscious parenting advocates.” But that’s how Anni Daulter and Ashley Ess, co-founders of new quarterly digital mag Bamboo, like to present themselves.

For their first issue, the pair has wrangled some impressive participants. Pamela Anderson shares her views on home birthing; Ricki Lake talks about her documentary; and there’s also a profile of well-known midwife Ina May Gaskin. From the editors’ intro page:

The flip-through formatted magazine looks very slick, whether you’re on an iPad or plain old-fashioned computer. And alongside the second Summer issue, Daulter and Ess plan to ramp up their version of Patch’s “Local Voices” – a website blog-community hub dubbed the “Bamboo Beeline.”
