Budd Schulberg Dead at 95

schulberg.jpg

Budd Schulberg has been the name synonymous with naming names for 60 years. His testimony to the House Un-American Activities Committee ended up being a veiled yet celebrated tale (with fellow namer director Elia Kazan) in the movie “On the Waterfront.” But as his obituaries point out every time people thought they could just write Schulberg off, he wrote more.

The novel, What Makes Sammy Run is an example.

Here is the NYT obit and here is the LAT. Only the LAT mentions Schulberg accompanied Sen. Robert F. Kennedy to the kitchen of the Ambassador Hotel the night he was murdered. Which is a weird twist.

Such a talented dramatist.

Rest in peace.
