Former X Factor Host Headed to Entertainment Tonight

Former The X Factor host Steve Jones is reportedly replacing Mark Steines as the new co-host of Entertainment Tonight, according to the New York Post.

The 35-year-old has been filling in since March and Steines is leaving the nightly syndicated entertainment show after 17 years.

Simon Cowell gave Jones the boot from the music competition show in January along with judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger.

From The Tonight Show to Marie Callender’s

The last time Conan O’Brien dropped in on David Letterman, Y2K was topical monologue material. In the intervening years, the prize they both coveted also slipped right through O’Brien’s fingers.

The red-haired one did not sound entirely convincing when he insisted (at the top of the clip below) that he is 100% happy at his new TBS home. He then told a funny story about how, the Monday after the Friday of his last Tonight Show broadcast, he was forced to convene his staff at a Marie Callender’s. O’Brien located the restaurant in Burbank, but it’s actually Toluca Lake.

Metta World Peace Gets Temporary New Nickname

This happened a couple of days ago – during the Monday 5 p.m. newscast on Chicago’s ABC-TV affiliate, to be exact. But it’s still pretty funny.

Especially since some 20/20 Laker fans are railing today against Metta World Peace for dishing the ball last night at the last second in Oklahoma City to Steve Blake rather than the Black Mamba. Via bustedcoverage.com and then Deadspin, the authenticity of this screen grab was verified:

NBC4 Apologizes for Using Incorrect LA Kings Logo

Classy move Tuesday night as NBC4 apologized for using the Sacramento Kings logo instead of the Los Angeles Kings logo Monday night during a story about the local playoff picture.

Far too often mistakes are made on live TV and the networks pretend it never happened. It also helps when you have such a strong Twitter presence like the Kings do.

KCET’s Your Turn to Care Lands National Syndication Deal

KCET is back on the national radar for the first time since going rogue and breaking away from the PBS umbrella. The station just announced that Your Turn to Care, hosted by Holly Robinson Peete, has landed a national syndication deal with American Public Television–the first major syndication deal of KCET’s solo era. The show, which focuses on the true life stories of baby boomers caring for elderly family members, will be seen on more than 70 stations throughout the country.

Judge to Entourage Plaintiff Johnny Bananas: You Slipped Up

The lawsuit was laughable from the start. MTV The Real World: Key West participant John Devenanzio claimed that an animated-show-within-a-show plotline of HBO’s Entourage, featuring Kevin Dillon’s character Johnny Drama as the voice of monkee Johnny Bananas, caused him emotional distress.

Creative distress, maybe. But as it merited to be, THR Esq. contributor Matthew Belloni Eriq Gardner reports today that a New York judge mercifully threw out this nicked nickname claim last week. Albeit on a technicality:

The episodes in question started airing on Aug. 15, 2010, and Devenanzio didn’t bring the claim until Oct. 3, 2011. The one-year statute of limitations window had closed, and so the judge finds the lawsuit to be less “Johnny Bananas” and more “Johnny Rotten.”

NBC4 Gets Those Pesky Kings Logos Mixed Up

Welp.

Someone is getting in trouble tonight over at NBC4.

Even if you were clueless about the NHL, the word “Sacramento” should have been a dead giveaway that this wasn’t the right logo for the Los Angeles Kings.

Soap Opera Actress Reveals Her Bold, Beautiful Gay Secret

If this were a storyline in a daytime soap, it would be hard to believe. But per Michael Logan’s exclusive TV Guide magazine report, it is all that and more. Currently returned to The Bold and the Beautiful for a storyline about identical twin Karen having lived a secret life as a lesbian, Joanna Johnson, the actress behind the role, has chosen to come out to the publication in real life as well.

To the first question from Logan, who applauds her decision and wonders about the absence of any other such brave daytime colleagues, Johnson can actually commiserate:

“I was so worried I wouldn’t be employable as an actress if people knew I was a lesbian. Or that I wouldn’t be believable in romance stories. I had to deal with a lot of self-loathing.”

Robert Rodriguez Talks About His Comcast Cable Network

Writer-director Robert Rodriguez recently returned to his Alma Mater, the University of Texas at Austin, for a casual conversation moderated by his former professor Charles Ramirez Berg.

One of the central topics of discussion was El Rey, the national cable channel that Rodriguez will unleash in 2014 with help from Comcast. He has been traveling the country to promote the in-the-works outlet, which is designed to give Latino filmmakers a much needed public airwaves boost. From the Austin360.com report:

Latinos will make up a third of the U.S. population by 2050, according to census estimates, yet, Rodriguez, joked, there was a dog channel before there was one like El Rey…

Rodriguez said the cable channel will be cutting-edge, underground and imbued by an indie sensibility. He has already had multiple conversations with Hollywood stars such as Benicio del Toro and Michelle Rodriguez, who have expressed interest in collaborating with El Rey on original programming.
