Die (of Embarrassment) Another Day

News of director Lee Tamahori‘s arrest in Hollywood on pandering charges (and in a black fright wig, in full drag, no less) reminds me of a certain story.l_2439720.jpg

Years ago in New York, I was having coffee with Roy Fuhrman, the investment banker. He’d just partnered with Michael Ovitz in what would later become the disasterous take-over of Broadway show producer, Livent.

We were awaiting the arrival of some of Fuhrman’s lieutenants, some of whom we could see dashing in through the lobby, red-faced and out-of-breath, panting from whatever traffic nightmare Manhattan had created that morning.

And as we waited, Fuhrman turned to me and observed dryly, “If we could know – really know – what these people were doing just an hour prior to this meeting, I assure you, it would probably turn your hair white.”

Finally, I understand what Roy meant: Everyone’s got their secrets. Tamahori just got caught sharing his.
