Exclusive! Wachowskis: “S” for “Speedracer”

EXCLUSIVE: Our moles tell us that Warner Bros. Pictures is in talks with the famously press-averse Wachowski Brothers Siblings? to both direct “Speedracer” – based on the iconic 1960s manga comics property. SpeedRacer.jpg

The reclusive duo of Larry? Lana? Laurenca? and Andy Wachowski recently got their long-mothballed “V for Vendetta” script made at Warner Bros., but have yet to go near a director’s chair since their vaunted “Matrix” trilogy wrapped – anti-climactically – in 2003. (Apparently, this has something to do with Larry taking up with a dominatrix whose claim to fame was inserting 333 needles into a single penis. More on this in the above Rolling Stone link, in case you missed it.)

Word has it that the “Speedracer” script, which has been punched up by both Mike Rich (“Finding Forrester,” “Radio”) as well as Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett (“Little Manhattan”)would get a Wachowski once-over, with the duo sharing directing duties as in days of yore – provided a deal can be made.

Our spies also murmur that Vince Vaughn, long-ago attached to the project, will likely produce with the Wachowskis, but that it may or may not be a starring “vehicle” for him.

(See what we did there? As in, The Mach 5? Starring vehicle? Man we’re deft. Or was it daft?)

Anyway, “developing” as they say…

UPDATE: Another source just called to tell us that “One Hour Photo” director Mark Romanek had actually been hired on “Speedracer” for a week, but that “Warners dropped him like a hot potato after learning that the Wachowskis wanted to make the film.”
