Former True/Slant homepage editor Michael Roston won’t be sticking around to see how things with Forbes pan out. Roston, who also served as an adviser of sorts to True/Slant’s west coast writers, is off to the New York Times. He sent a farewell note around to his writers.

I’d like to bid you all something of a fond farewell. Come September 1, I’ll be departing Forbes.com and moving on from the work that’s being done to bridge the divide between what you all helped us accomplish with T/S and what comes next. I’ll be joining the New York Times’s web team to work as a producer on the site’s homepage.

Good luck to those of you who are on your way to writing for Forbes’s new online efforts. I hope the rest of you find well-paying editors who understand what terrific results you produce when you’re left to do your own thing. It was my great joy and pleasure to oversee the work you produced, and I can’t express my gratitude enough for all the labor you put into your pages. However wonderful it will be to join the Times, nothing will ever come close to the excitement I found waking up every morning and seeing what you’d all come up with on any given day on your True/Slant blogs. Whatever we did to make the site succeed, none of it could have happened if we hadn’t manged to assemble one of the greatest groups of writers out there on the Internet.

I intend to do my best to keep an eye on the great writing you’ll all continue to produce. Please let me know if there’s anything I can ever do for any of you. And do stay in touch, please!
