‘Good’ Creates a 48-Hour Magazine

This past weekend, the folks from Good magazine got together with the folks from 48HR magazine, with the intention of putting together an entirely new magazine before the sun came up Monday morning.

On Friday afternoon dozens of writers and editors arrived at GOOD, armed with sleeping bags, MacBooks, and cases of beer. The theme for the issue was Comeback. Over the next 48 hours (some of which were spent napping on couches and air mattresses) the team read hundreds of submissions; plucked out pieces that would be published in the magazine, as well as on a website that would launch simultaneously; and edited and illustrated them.

By noon on Sunday we not only had a magazine, we had 50 new friends and collaborators. The whole experience gave us great faith in what we’re doing here at GOOD, and reminded us why compressing the work of hundreds of people into 60 beautiful, intelligent pages is always, always worth it.

They’re calling their effort “Longshot.” Looks like it will be the first of many. Looking forward to checking out the print edition.
