Groupon Goes Hollywood

Can Groupon: The Motion Picture be far behind? Nothing it seems can stop the Chicago-based daily special behemoth these days.

The latest half-off feather in the company’s cap is a Hollywood-first partnership with Lionsgate to promote the Matthew McConaughey flick The Lincoln Lawyer. Per the press release:

Groupon will make The Lincoln Lawyer tickets available for $6 apiece during its two-day online promotion on Wednesday, March 16th, and Thursday, March 17th.  Fandango will orchestrate the program under which consumers will purchase the deal on Groupon and will receive a special code that will be valid for redeeming tickets through Fandango.

Unlike McConaughey’s M.O. in the movie, this deal required a bit more than working from the open trunk of a Lincoln Continental. According to the release, the promotion was orchestrated by three VPs at Lionsgate and the Director of Business Development for Groupon.
