Jane Fonda, a Part of Speech
Okay, what is with the book reviews in the LAT Calendar section? Last week’s review of the R.W. Apple book ended very strangely. And here’s the last paragraph of today’s look at the Jane Fonda memoir:
Fonda, resisting the pretzel shape of her mother’s life, flowed in and through a certain period of American history like water, like a river; shallow in parts, deep in others. An icon, it seems, is really just a noun. Jane Fonda is most definitely a verb.
I think what the reviewer means is “Jane Fonda changes a lot.” But I’m really not sure.
