Their widely picked up Bloomberg News piece, filed yesterday, revealed that not one but two California opportunists have filed preposterous trademark applications for the term “Linsanity.” The first applicant lives in Alhambra, the second in Los Altos. Both filed last week ahead of Lin’s 38-point performance against the Lakers.
Deadspin.com has also been on top of this story, having reported a while back about one of the applicants, who has been running the website Linsanity.com. Even though it’s only a matter of time before this happens, shame on both dudes:
Gary Krugman, a partner at the Washington-based firm Sughrue Mion, said in a telephone interview with Bloomberg that he would advise Lin to file his own application and contest whichever of the others gets published. “I have a feeling both of these guys are small operators,” he said. “If Jeremy comes in with a big law firm they won’t be able to hang with him.”
