Ex-LA Times Sportswriter Jokes Around at Laguna Beach Patch

The first hint that John Weyler‘s Laguna Beach Patch column is not entirely serious is the name – “An American Idle.” Sure enough, the one-time LA Times beat chronicler of MLB’s Angels and the NFL Rams is using this new outlet to go way out on the humorous beam.

His latest piece, published today, posits some preposterous conspiracy theories. There’s the tiny copy of the Quran hidden in Obama’s teeth; the revelation that Barbara Boxer is a Chinese double agent; and this, about our new Governor:

The other day, while digging around in Rush Limbaugh’s backyard, the Idle discovered secret recordings that substantiate the widespread notion that Gov. Jerry Brown has reunited with former girlfriend Linda Ronstadt… The tapes reveal that he and Ronstadt are smoking a potent medicinal marijuana they call “Train Wreck” all day while plotting how to turn the Golden State over to the labor unions.

Weyler (pictured) began writing his “An American Idle” column for Patch last December. He was also recently back with the Times as a part-time editor.
