Judith Regan predicts the future

regan919.gifLast week The Hollywood Reporter ran an interview with Judith Regan. No, she is not yet an Angeleno (the interview was phoned in from “a tiny hotel room with no light somewhere deep in Italy”) but she did prognosticate on the future of entertainment:

If I were running a movie business, I would do DVD (and theatrical) releases simultaneously, and I would charge $100 for the DVD. Tell me that your high-end friends wouldn’t pay for that! Easy!

and also on the nature of American culture:

The central problem in America is loneliness, which comes out of consuming all this (pop) culture and yet, not having human experiences. I call it the “pornoization” of the culture. If you look at where the culture is going, there is no love, there is no tenderness.

Also, Regan says that movie theaters may turn into “community gathering places.” What is it with Regan and community-building? The way she talks, you’d think she lived on a kibbutz.

Anyway, I still have no idea when ReganBooks is moving here, but I have heard that they’re reaching out to trendy Silver Lake-ish architectural firms to discuss their HQ-building needs.
