Pelosi Wants to Help Bay Area Newspapers Through Antitrust Laws

Well, there isn’t just one reason that newspapers are dying. It’s more of a perfect storm. A perfect been-coming-for-a-freaking-long-time-everyone-saw-it-coming storm. Everyday it seems there is some writer, media critic or newspaper person pens a piece about why newspapers are in peril. Because content is free, craigslist siphoning off ad revenue or something half-baked Ann Coulter said.

Or it’s just the economy. It’s the housing bubble and the credit crisis and the massive meltdown that followed. That’s the deathblow to newspapers. The same wallop that hit the car industry.

Anyway, the woman that’s just two heartbeats away from the presidency, Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi has another theory as to why her Bay Area newspapers are struggling and how the government can help.

From SFChron:

In a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, released by Pelosi’s office late Monday, the San Francisco Democrat asked the department to weigh the public benefit of saving The Chronicle and other papers from closure against the agency’s antitrust mission to guard against anti-competitive behavior.

Uhm, ok.
