LA Programmer Donates Index Page to The Daily

This will probably not last long. But for the moment, thanks to LA based journalist and programmer Andy Baio (pictured), Rupert Murdoch‘s ballyhooed iPad publication The Daily has a nifty new article web indexing function.

Baio, who works at Expert Labs, noticed there was no web indexing or archiving of articles at the new TheDaily.com website. So he went ahead and created that functionality and posted it on Tumblr. However, he blogs today that he is fully aware of the potential risks:

Frankly, I’m also very curious about the legal implications. My understanding is that linking to public news articles is unquestionably legal… But I’m still recovering from a legal nightmare last year (more on that soon), so if asked to stop publishing and delete the Tumblr, I will. (Lawyers: My email address is at the top of this page.)

Although the Tumblr page will not make Andy as famous or successful with the ladies as Hollywood namesake Scott, it has already raised his media profile considerably via pieces in the New York Times and other outlets.
