Salon’s Catherine Price gets her dreads in a knot over Hasbro’s newest plastic monstrosity, Rose Petal Cottage. It comes with furniture, appliances and a copy of The Surrendered Wife.

Price, who must not have kids, writes

Its tag line is “Where dreams have room to grow,” which I suppose could make sense, provided that dreams don’t mind sharing space with laundry machines, baby cradles and aprons.

Nothing squishes dreams like laundry, which is why all great artists smell so bad. Readers respond intelligently, but no one makes the point that maybe some little girl will be so inspired by her time in the playhouse gulag that she’ll grow up to write cookbooks, just like Price.
