Diane Clehane, “lunch” columnist for our sister site FishbowlNY, caught up recently at Michael’s restaurant with stand-up comedian Sinbad. Thanks to a new reality show debuting Tuesday April 12th on WEtv, he’s set for his biggest media splash since competing on the third season of Celebrity Apprentice.
“Brett Michaels was a baby and Sharon Osbourne has the filthiest mouth of any woman I’ve ever met,” he recalled about his experiences on the Donald Trump extravaganza. “She faked being sick just so she could miss being project manager for the first three weeks.”
While The Donald welcomes this type of on-air drama, there will be – by choice – very little of it on Sinbad: It’s Just Family, all about the performer’s life with wife Meredith Adkins and kids Paige, Royce. The comedian says his bedroom was off limits for the show and that there is no subplot about trying to make a desperate comedy comeback, since his live performance career has continued unabated.
“These [reality TV] producers want meltdowns and dramas, but most of the dramas wouldn’t happen if people weren’t shooting their show,” he said. “Most reality shows have an agenda and you have to understand that. I got about 80 percent of what I wanted; I was the voice of reason. We picked and chose what we wanted to shoot.”
